Mas Que Nada

A few years ago, i came across this Nike advertisement on TV, and kinda fall in love with the music straight away. Somehow, it felt that i have heard the melody from somewhere...

After listening to it more carefully, I realised the singer of the song is Black Eyed Peas (which happens to be one of my fave groups at that time).... Apparently they gave a new outlook to this old song from Sergio Mendez... I also dont know who he was until i heard this song actually. This song just makes me wanna groove and i just cant get it out of my head... when i listen to it, i can imagine a cheerful and relax atmosphere...

Wondering what Mas Que Nada Means...
So i checked it out on Wiki... and this is what i got:
In Brazilian Portuguese slang, it means "come on" or "no way". In Latin-American Spanish más que nada literally means "more than anything".

Apparently wiki doesnt help much... =( haha I still dun really get what it means....
but the melody of the song explains a lot... to me, it means "doesnt matter what problem you have at hand, you can forget about it when you listen to the samba"
haha sorry, kinda cheesy...=P

Actually i stopped listening to that song after some time. But recently, my craze for Ballroom dancing has brought me back to it. I was "again" searching for Ballroom dance videos on Youtube. When i was looking for some samba dances, i found these great dances on the videos. The first one is by some professional dancers. As you can see, the technique is super solid! but i cant help but notice that the fit of the girl's dress is horrible. Oh man!

The second one is by a group of people. Technique wise, they are not as good as the first one, but their choreography is really charming. really enjoy watching it

Ohhh... ballroom dance really rocks! it really gives a lot of positive energy...

anyway, other than ballroom dance, i also managed to find something else. It is a Japanese group singing Mas Que Nada, but with bossanova feel to it

The piano accompanyment here is really good but i'm not a big fan of the vocal... somehow the pronouciation of the vocalist doesnt support the feel of the song.... something is lacking there. just not sure what it is... may be authenticity... haha

haha... enough of overdosing this blog with too much of Mas Que Nada-ing...
anyway, thanks to Sergio Mendez who created that beautiful song, now i have something to groove to... yeah!

post about me-myself-and i

It's 2 am now...
i refused to sleep even tho i know i need rest and my beauty sleep...
and i got tonnes of things better to do than writting this blog...

i just happen to dig thru some old archives in this blog... those that wrote in yr 1 or so... i just feel that so many things have changed...
how friendship has changed. how friends come n go..
i dunno wad's wrong, but somehow, in Uni, the "turnover rate" of friends is so high...is it just me, and how i handle friendship?

and i'm kinda used to being independent...

i remember last time... last last time... i used to feel really awkward if i have to go out shopping alone or eating in the canteen alone...
but now, all these are not a big deal, it's everyday reality, or at least that's how i feel. even "worse", i kinda enjoy it sometimes... like for example, i really love to shop alone.... i can spend however much time to ensure that the thing that i want to buy is really what i want and it's really worth buying...i will feel really uncomfortable knowing that a friend is waiting for you outside the fitting room, waiting impatiently.. you know, that kind of feeling...
but these are just my feelings, i know it may not be true... coz some friends can be very patient as well..

oh well, i happened to see some photos from the KL trip during year 1 when the whole grp of us went together...
i see the "irreplaceable" expression in our faces... some kind of joy that is so precious....we would have our own troubles and ups and downs at that time, but somehow, those faces couldnt lie that we were all having so much fun...

not that i'm not happy right now.... i think i'm kind of enjoying this sem as well, but i kinda miss what it used to be like...
maybe this is the consequence of growing older...
hmpph.. no rheumatism, just some sore here and there... lol

Another personality test

I was tagged by Citra on Facebook...
http://world.doubutsu-uranai.com/index.html
a personality test...
Note: there is no obligation to pass on the tag... just felt really curious and tried it...
so here it is....

1. You are Gold Lion, who is rather serious and polite type of person.
2. You value personal relationships.
3. You suppress yourself and act to be a sociable person.
4. But you are really a person who doesn't like to loose to anyone.
5. You dislike emotional atmosphere and vague attitude.
6. You want to make everything clear-cut.
7. You like to stay in your own little world.
8. If you get in a situation where there are lots of people you can not express yourself and act as a perfect person.
9. You are not very subjective sort of person, unlike ordinary women, but unfortunately you lack soft and gentle atmosphere.
10. You tend to be too bold.
11. You cannot help but stretch your hand to those who are in need.
12. You are very kind person who helps the weak.

13. You are also weak on compliments, and will work enthusiastically after someone has given a compliment.
14. You will go about your duty steadily and loyally, and not get in a rush to achieve the objective.
15. You have perseverance, and will work effortlessly until you reach your objective.
16. Something that you have worked steadily for a long, long time, will turn out to be an asset to the world.

17.You are careful and rational, and therefore place value to steady life.
18, After getting married, you will be a devoted mother and a wife, but you are really a very dependent person, and prefer to keep your own little world.

Comments:
-This is scarily true.. all the good sides and bad sides of mine are exposed... "oh vulnarable vulnarable..."
- I don't really agree with those highlighted in blue.... either I really dont have those qualities or I just cant see it in myself...
- The last sentence about being a devoted mother and wife... hm... never even think that far yet....=P
- For the rest, believe it or not... they really tell a story about myself... if you know me well enough, you'll agree....

DnD relieved

felt so relieved and excited yesterday, after a relatively short preparation for yesterday's DnD...
at first i was a bit pessimistic about the ticket sales and all after kena rejected by a few ppl...

but my spirit got lifted up especially this week...
I was asked to be part of the performer (read: dancer) for this event... which i was a bit reluctant to at first.. i have done many performances before but never dance...
yes, i was once in NUS social n ballroom dance before.. but that was learning an quite different from performing in public....
but thanks to those who asked me to perform.. coz i really enjoyed it tremendously... never expect it to be so fun...! altho i admit it was not the best performance from me..=P
but, i still wanna thank my dance partners and dance friends for putting up with my bad temper sometimes and yet still patiently teach me... i know i was not being very nice during some of the practices...

overall, i just love the whole nite... not perfect... but still lovely...
the 2 songs still run over my head over and over again...
if i hear the song again, i can still feel the tingling sensation in my heart...nervous sia..

last but not least, wanna thank those who have come for the event and make the whole thing worth it... i was really grateful for all....=)

with the event over, now it's the time to settle some paper works and school work..
oh no! i got a mid term test already on monday.... ckckckck.. how cruel is that...

*and I realize that everytime i see your face, i know...
there's a part of me that cant bear to let you go...

and I would give my heart
give you the world, risk losing everything i got
i give it all to you
no, i dun wanna stop
I know it's the right thing to do.....

one last dance with you....*

ps: i think i shld get a camera soon...so many events pictures missed....

This is almost accurate....

not trying to promote anything, for the first time i felt that a quiz actually makes sense and almost accurate...
so i thot I'm just gonna post the result here...
*this is a facebook apps that usually i wont even want to try... but somehow this is insanely accurate... unbelievable...
July
Fun to be with. Secretive. Difficult to fathom and to be understood.Quiet unless excited or tensed. Takes pride in oneself. Has reputation. Easily consoled. Honest. Concerned about people's feelings. Tactful. Friendly. Approachable. Emotional temperamental and unpredictable. Moody and easily hurt. Witty and sparkly. Not revengeful. Forgiving but never forgets.Dislikes nonsensical and unnecessary things. Guides others physically and mentally. Sensitive and forms impressions carefully. Caring and loving. Treats others equally. Strong sense of sympathy. Wary and sharp. Judges people through observations. Hardworking. No difficulties in studying

Tell me, do u think I am like what is described here or not...?

Something that I'm proud of....

Spot me if you can...
this is just a rehearsal....
hopefully i can get hold of the video of the actual performance...that would be really great...

* Thanks to whoever who uploaded this... all this while we've been practising without knowing wad we actually look like... lol

We've been practicing for this dance for more than 3 months... resulting in bruised kneecap and feet... neck and head pain... but it has all come down to today's performance and it's all worth it!! totally!!

Fashion item this season: Scarf!!

Personally, i havent been following fashion trend a lot in the way i dress myself up.
I'm in Engineering faculty... therefore, jeans, shorts and T-shirts are the staples and you dun need to accessorise much... life is as humdrum as it can be, especially with exam coming near...

in the midst of studying for my test, i was watching one of my Taiwan shows from youtube (distraction as usual)... It's a girls/women show where they will show you the latest trend in fashion, body and face care...etc etc...

I stumbled upon this episode where they show you how to wear scarves, shawl or wadever u like to call it...
I know that scarf is getting popular, even in the hot weather of singapore... it is no longer a protective or winter clothing that people used to associate it with...
the first person around me that started the scarf-trend was ismy... I saw her wearing her checkered red scarf (something like the Scotland pattern...)

Scarf is nice and actually functional as you can wear it in many different manner depending on the shapes and sizes of the scarves and the person who wears it....
you can wear a boring plain black or white tee and put on a bright colored scarf, and TADA!! it become more than just normal...

and the thing is, living in the environment where you cant really escape air-con....(i have one in my room too), scarf can be a good friend when you are feeling freezing cold (like LT 7a that i have to sit in every other day)

watching that Taiwan show makes me wanna go shopping and get a nice scarf.. haha..

precious weekend!

have not been updating my blog regularly...
have been very tired of wad is happening around... i shall not mention here..

just wanna reflect about happy stuff that has been happening during the weekend that has just past..
my mom was in singapore for the whole week last week...which was just wad i needed at this point of time....
out of the 7 days, i only got to meet her for 3 days..
sad sad me... cruel cruel life...
but it was a fun 3 days...

cut my hair at shuji matsuo again... fresh look is wad i need now... (but i think i still have that "i-am-doomed" face... you shld noe why.... it's that time of the semester again! haiz)
shopped for dresses for dec wedding... yippiieee
didnt manage to find any sandals to match tho... either the price is too ex or the designs that i want dont have my size... sobz...

luckily monday is deepavali holiday, so i can send my mom to the airport....
but when i came back from airport... all the schwork, projects and dunno wad else are already haunting me... i was really quite stressed out for spending my weekend just like that...

had yoga that evening... feel quite refreshed at first, but gets so so so tired that i slept at 9 plus, almost 10... woke up the next day at 5... hahah... the first time ever in my NUS life that i woke up so early to do my work...

for now... i just need to get this negative thoughts from my mind and do my best...
i'm at this point where there is no turning back... so just do wadever i can...
jiayou!

Kettle Chips taste so good!!

haha yeah, the title of this post may sounds so shallow and random...
and yes, it is random indeed... haha and this post is dedicated to the packet of Kettle Brand Chips that I just finished.
(disclaimer: dont read if you think that you have no time... --> but the fact that you are reading my blog is actually a sign that you have too much time... so just read on then...)

Last week, I went to the Nanyang mart and I saw the racks filled with Kettle chips...I was so tempted to try coz i know it is supposed to be expensive and expensive stuff is supposed to be nicer (a bit of generalization here...)
I was so delighted when i thought that the price is only $2.00...yay!
so, i just grabbed a packet of Honey Dijon "tangy mustard seeks love at first bite"... that's what it says at the package.... just curious how is a Kettle different from a Lays or even a Pringles...

So, after grabbing some other stuff that I need from the mart, i went straight to the cashier and paid without even knowing how much i was paying for...
when i went to the canteen carrying the plastic bag full of my groceries, my friend commented..."Wah! buying Kettle chips arh..."
I hurriedly explained to him that I bought it because it was $2.00...
then he was like " ha? $2.00? so cheap!"
That was the time when i actually checked the packet of Kettle that I bought and I saw a $4.50 price sticker on it.....oh well...

hm... ya... how can I be so stupid to think that Kettle chips can be so cheap...

I has been bought anyway, so I might as well enjoy it to the fullest...
and indeed, I really enjoyed it. In my opinion, they should adopt KFC's finger-licking-good slogan.
It was so good that I even ripped the packet open and allowed my clean hands to get greasy just to reach the last few pieces of Kettle chips inside there... crunch!nyum! (*you should be salivating by now and maybe have a sudden rush of impulse to get a packet of Kettle chips from your nearby grocery store!)

So, how is Kettle chip different from Lays and Pringles you may asked...
To me, who is a potato lover... Pringles is the least of my favourite... simply because it is made from potato powder and not sliced potato itself (*but that doesnt mean that I will reject a Pringles if you offer me one)

That leaves me with Lays and Kettle... okay, at this point, flavour comes to play...
i have never tasted Honey Dijon before... so i think the unique flavour of Kettle gives it a slight advantage here...

So, here i present you the flattened-and-ripped open packet of Kettle chips that i have just finished...

and you have just wasted your precious time reading this post... i told you already... it is just a random post that i wanted to write.... and i was never paid by Kettle to do this hor....just for fun lah... and actually before this, i have been absent from potato chips for quite sometime due to my cough during the beginning of the semester.

let's stop a while before we move on again

last week was my mid term test week...
didnt really study much n was not satisfied with my own performance...
*not just about grades n marks*
i just feel that i have not put my best effort into my academics
and i think my 3121 project groupmates may not be very impressed with my contribution to the group...
i somehow feel that i'm super lost in the project and only did my minimum...
should really buck up now... should perform better in the next project...
*2 more projects for that module are waiting to come, not to mention the projects from other modules... really going crazy just to think abt it....

lalala...

studies aside,
had quite a jam-packed friday and saturday

friday nite: went out with cousin n cousin-in-law to be
place: clarke quay (Rennthai, cafe iguana)

Saturday afternoon: lunch with lita "belated bdae celebration for her"
place: vivo (thai accent)

satuday evening: Foongyi's bdae celebration
place: pasta de waraku, central; the pump room, clarke quay, east coast park

comments:
*i had 2 that food meals in 2 days, visited clarke quay 2 times in 2 days
*sudden visit to east coast at nite... haha... thanks to yeanching's crazy idea which is quite refreshing indeed... miss that place so much...
*pasta de waraku is nice!! tried the bacon & eggplant pasta...
*foongyi's bdae cake was very nice too! but too full to finish it after so much pasta... haha
*roti john (is that how u write it?) at east coast is yummy too... especially at 1 am when there's no more satay n stingray.. =)

after having so much fun, i think it's time for me to really pay more attention to studies...
have lots of things to catch up after the slightly slacked mid term week... huaaaa

hard to find

hm...
in a few post ago...i have posted 2 youtube videos. if i'm not wrong the title of the post was "ear candies". in those 2 youtube videos are the songs that i like from this particular taiwanese singer.... too bad for you guys who don't listen to chinese songs... but these are really good!

ok, back on track...
basically the original singer of those two songs is this quirky looking guy from Taiwan..."Lu Guang Zhong or 盧廣仲 "
i think you will laugh by just looking at his appearance...
the big horn-rimmed glasses, the plain Tee (of various colurs), the shorts, the long socks and the sneakers... oh ya, not forgetting the bowl-like haircut... hahaz

Yup, just something like this... haha...
weird, nerdy looking. This is the picture in his album cover.

but surprisingly, behind this look, you find a very unique and soothing voice...
and what i like the most from him is that he wrote his own songs... and his lyrics are just very funny sometimes...
and he plays his own guitar... weee

the two youtube videos that i uploaded previously are the two songs that i love the most from his new album... but i think i'm gonna grow liking his music more n more... 'that's how i am with music... the more i listen, the more i love'

Other than the two songs from the youtube videos, there is one more very interesting video of him that you guys shld see... prepare yourself.. haha

(nevermind about the lyrics... i oso dun understand... it's supposed to be something funny...but nvm)

super high pitch isnt it? haha.... if you are interested enough to find out... the original song that he just sang is something like this

*that's how he got his name "Vitas" i guess

okay... enough of the entertainment...
but wait...... there is one more thing...

i just found out something about this quirky guy....
he is born on the exact same day as meeee... 15 July 1986....
I was damn shocked to see it in one of the websites... haha...
it's really hard to find a person with the same birthday as me... amazingly, he was also born the same year... !! woohoo, how rare is that...

usually i wont be too proud if i have the things in common with some quirky, weird looking guy...
but this is different... he really writes good music... something really refreshing...

100种生活 Zhong Shen Huo

*it means 100 ways of living...
enjoy that!

signing off...

grhhhh

Ppl say, separate business from personal life...
now i think it's true....
it's happening rite now i'm supossed to put myself in 3 perspectives...

on one side, i have to be professional and dun side anyone...
but on the other side... haiz... how can i not care abt my friends' feelings...
somemore i'm not the kind of person who will just say things blatantly...

seriously, i think that being an anti-social is not so bad after all at this point of time... or can i just vanish tmrw...

sick of life.. sick of organizational politics... sick of having to think so much...
why cant everybody just think more other than for themselves...
(sometimes what ppl believes n wad they practice is just totally no-link n rubbish!)

*moody mood*
