Read Kompas-Kehidupan Sunday

Since I was so free yesterday, I flipped thru’ the newspaper in the hope of finding some interesting articles… Yes, indeed I found an article which was very intriguing but disturbing at the same time…I was totally disagree with wad is written there…
The title of that article was ”Selamat berpisah Film Serial Hollywod” which can be translated as “Good Bye Hollywood Series”….The first Line that followed sounds sumthing like this, “Gradually, the Hollywood TV Series begin to disappear because they are less favoured compared to the Local programmes…” Singggg….
That sentence alone makes me frown and read in such a disbelief…How can u actually compare Indonesian Sinetron like Tersanjung, etc etc (I dun actually noe a lot of titles coz I’m just lack in interest in them) to US TV Series like Desperate Housewives, Lost and The OC..?? From the title only, u can guess which will sell better, rite??
The theme of Indonesian Sinetrons never deviate from these: teenage life story (gangs n clique, bimbo girls n a girl that’s always bullied, and most of the time involves stupid love story --> I like love story, I just hate how they are presented in Sinetron…yukk!), weird creatures, ghost, witches, genie, etc (with all the ugly costumes, really sickening!) and comedy. Basically that’s all. Can’t they find some interesting theme and make it into a good show before start comparing with US…and maybe Taiwan, Japan n Korea?
Another thing that was raised in the article was that American Idol which absorbs millions of spectators all around the world is said to get poor rating among Indonesian viewers… Hey, before saying this, shouldn’t they evaluate first…? FYI, here, American Idol is shown at 11 pm at nite…That’s the starting time….If we include the result show…dunno wad time it will end… I’m one of the Idol shows fan, including American Idol of course. But the fact is I’m deprived of such shows since I came back to Indo due to the unreasonable showing time. (Okay maybe my family sleep rather early, like ard 11, but still…). This is not just for American Idol, coz other US series like Despo Housewives n CSI are also shown ard the same time. Maybe for the latter 2 series, it’s understandably due to censorship n stuff, but wad abt American Idol, anything to censor??NO!
Besides, I’m sure that the TV company have bought those shows at quite a high price, so, why don’t they show it at the prime time 1700-2100…I’m sure it will worth more of their money. Some ppl who have cable TV will surely turn away from our local channels to the cable TV for these US shows due the more reasonable showing time and that explains everything…
One more thing that makes that article unacceptable for me is… they mention that Friends series….(for Friends fans, myself included, prepare urself) are unsuitable here due to the cultural difference, the idea of ppl of diff gender staying together cannot be accepted here… HELLO! Excuse me…That’s called crapping up an excuse to support ur view (so artificial -->just like wad the GP tutors always say). Maybe they should try doing a survey before writing that down…
But at least that article still mentions that ASIAN shows are more popular…of course, Japan, Korea n Taiwanese shows are still popular…because they are mostly good.
I noe I sound v one-sided, but who cares, this is not a GP essay, this is my blog… I just wanna voice my disagreement…Give me my Hollywood series!!

After I’m back…

Life in Jakarta is so boring. I guess this is becoz we as human are nv satisfied…rite?? Yes, last time when still have school, we complain that life is such a torture with all the tests, homework, lecture n all…but now, as we are having such a long holiday, still got things to complain…but it’s okay, u won’t have this kind of life next time. Especially after uni starts…
After coming back from Medan, I feel that I really love traveling. Yesterday I was going thru’ the pictures that I took when I went to China n Medan. I think there are lots of new stuff that u’ll see when u travel. A dream of mine is to travel more…Europe, US, Aussie, Korea, Japan. But money is still hard to earn, shld not waste it just like that. So maybe next time when I’ve work n get a pay myself, then can plan to go wherever I want. Haha
Oh yah, last wed, me alice n dwee went to TA (Taman Angrek). When I was in Junior high sch, my sch ppl used to call this mall the temple of young ppl. Why? Because teenagers like to go there every weekends, to hang out n stuff lah.
Okay, back to the main pt. The outing was sum kind of farewell for Alice who is going to Aussie…(She’s there aledy now). Our kind of outing was more of sitting down, eating n talk all the way. Maybe after we came back from sg, shopping is not so tempting anymore…hehe
We (alice n me) also helped dwee wif some of her dentistry interview questions. Wish her all the best of luck. I myself had bad experience abt interview that I’m rather scared n reluctant to go for another interview. Maybe that’s becoz I’m scared of rejection. The last time was Harmoc n Jap club Exco interview. The Jap club one was okay, but for the Harmoc one, I think that I’ve gone there just to waste time n embarrassed my self. I really screwed up that time. I was not really upset for not getting in the Exco. The problem is, I did not agree with how the interview was conducted. I had no power to change anything at all coz maybe that was a so called “tradition”. That interview sort of making me traumatic n I have rather negative impression abt all kind of interview now.
Sigh…wad’s in the past, just let it be in the past. Anyway, that happenened so long time ago….

Mall outing

I noe that 2 blogs for a trip to Medan shld be more than enuf. But I think I feel like writing this one too. Which is the outing with my dear Medanian friends, Lita n Pat. Really haven’t seen them for quite long. The last time was when we collected our result in Singapore. So, they took me to so called the nicest mall in Medan, called sun plaza. Quite big I must say. And honestly, I went there 4 times when I was in Medan, haha.
Me, Lita n Pat ate at Nelayan restaurant which is this place where u can eat Dim sum, nyum! My favourite…hehe after that we went to this place called Stinger if I’m not wrong, sumthing like Timezone where u play all the arcade. Now I noe why Arcade is so dangerous. U can spend large sum of money for those games. Especially the one that tempt u with more coins to get…hahah. In the end, the owner of the place still get all the money coz u can’t refund the coins anyway. Haha.
We all got so addicted by this game where u put in coins to get more coins (that if ur luck is good). The problem is, once u get lots n lots of coins, u feel like u have so much, so u’ll just spend it in the same game n try ur luck again. Ha ha! This is where human weakness is shown. U’ll end up spending all the coins that u’ve earned before in the same stupid game that u planned to use for other games. Haha. But actually that’s the fun.
It’s quite embarrassing when the 3 of us play…coz other ppl play calmly…at least they dun get so excited, bang the machine n shout so loud when they win. Yup, that’s wad we did…embarrassing huh? But dun care lah, the other ppl dun recognize us wad…
Yup, too bad our outing was short… would like to play with them again….

Another post abt Medan...

Yup, Maybe it’s quite boring to continue on and on abt my Medan trip….but I think this is something worth telling.
After the super tiring trip to my dad’s “kampong”, the next day, again, I have to wake up at 5.30 pm…super early rite?? This is becoz my uncle wanted to take us to this very nice place that I’ve heard of since I was in Primary sch….
Typical IPS (Geography) question:
Wad is the largest lake in Indonesia…Answer: Lake Toba…
Okay…this is just common knowledge which I think most studentsin Indo will know…but wad most of them dunno is how beautiful that place is…
I won’t elaborate abt the long way from Medan to this place called Parapat…usually ppl pronounce it as Prapat…haha yup, this is like one part of the land ard Toba Lake…
Tell u wad, the scenery there was like a few times more beautiful than other similar place that I’ve been to, like Guilin in China which I went to end of 2004 if I’m not wrong. If anyone who has gone to Guilin and say that that place is nice, wait till u come to Lake Toba…hehe did I sound like I’m promoting, but really, Medan ppl are so fortunate coz it’s nearer..
At this place u can see Mountain and Lake, which means that the lake is surrounded by mountain. It’s rather hard to explain n elaborate by words coz u have to see it urself.
It’s really a pity that such a beautiful beautiful place seems to be rather forgotten and abandoned after the 1998 riot (that’s wad I heard from the ppl there).
We stayed in a hotel called Niagara which was actually quite far from the Lake side. So didn’t really have much chance to play with water. But it was a really nice n clean hotel and wad special was that the view from the hotel is much better than the other hotels nearer to the lake coz our hotel was at higher ground so u can see all, basically.
I really wanted to try that water scooter or something like that, u noe, the one in the movie Hitch if u noe wad I mean…but my mom said that actually it’s not as easy to drive that thing as u see it. Maybe quite true lah, I dun even noe how to drive car, then my swimming is still damn lousy. Haha…so many excuses but basically just dun have the gut to try lah. I wish I could really, looks like damn fun.
Beside sight seeing, I oso got my own “Biology lesson” on the field. Yup, had the chance to see plants that city dweller like me nv see before. Haha I sounds so Kampungan rite? But I guess I learned sum stuff that we won’t get from textbook only.
Yup, after spending one day n one nite at Parapat, we went back to Medan via Brastagi. This is like the Puncak of Medan ppl. Puncak is where jkt ppl would go during weekends or holidays. While for Medan ppl, Brastagi is oso that kind of place.
Then at brastagi, went to the Fruit Market. Too bad it was raining. So we didn’t spend much time there and that’s the end of the trip and I was on the way back to Medan.
Fiuhh….wad along post. Continue next time

Real holiday

Feels like such a long time since the last time I updated my blog….The reason is coz I was in Medan for 11 days…Actually I have returned since last week….Then after that I’m just too lazy to write….haha. But now I’m back.
So, It’s time that I write abt Medan. I haven’t been to Medan for so so many years, though many of my relatives live there. So, I’ve really faint idea of what Medan was really like before my trip. The main purpose of me going to Medan, is coz my dad wanted to take me to his “Kampong”, where he grew up…so as to speak. And of course to visit my grandfather’s graveyard…
My grandfather’s grave is not exactly at Medan. And I must say it’s quite far from Medan and we had to travel (BY CAR) for ard 6-7 hours if I’m not wrong. Yup, we set off at 5.30 (that’s like so damn early in the morning, my prime sleeping hour..hiks). So, it looks like 10 o’clock at nite when we set off from my granma’s house. Then, I continued sleeping in the car for 2 hrs or more I think….haha…
But it’s okay, I didn’t really miss anything v interesting during that 2 hrs….When I woke up, wad I saw along the way was all the plam oil plantation and rubber tree (pohon karet I mean, did I use the rite term??) Yup, it’s really amazing how neat the rubber trees were planted. I really looked like a troop of soldiers lining up. But I guess if u really get in there U’ll get lost inside coz it’s too neat and all the trees looked the same.
I must say this trip was like a back to nature trip with all these natural scenery, I rarely had a chance to see in Jakarta.
Basically after we reached there, we went to the grave then went to this “old neighbour” of my dad’s family last time. They invited us to their house to eat. Eat so much till my stomach got bloated…
After that return to Medan on the same day….taking the same road back….it’s actually a damn tiring day coz the road is quite small but smooth…The problem is, the road is just enuf for 2 vehicles. The 2 lanes are for 2 different direction. That’s not so much of a problem if every car can move with the same speed. I mean, there are loads of truck (really big n bulky truck) carrying stuff like the palm oil seed, wood, and wadever else, including Ace hardware store truck….haha… So, small cars like ours obviously wanted to overtake them coz the trucks are super slow…like turtle…budden when u want to overtake using the other lane, watch out for the giant trucks on the other side…fiuh, luckily our driver very pro….I’m too tired to look out myself (or actually too scared) so I just sleep along the way back….wad a tiring day….I reach Medan with flat butt and stiff body due to long hours of sitting in the car….
That nite when we reached Medan, my gandma cooked some food and invited all her sons daughter, grandsons, granddaughter (including me of course)….ok maybe not all coz not everybody is in Medan lah. Yah, but it’s still a rare acassion for so many of us to gather (exactly squeeze) in that small house. Luckily got enuf chairs and plates for us all to dine together. Wad a rare occasion for me was to meet all my “long time never see” cousins. They all grew up to be quite different from the last time I met them which was dunno how many years ago….haha. Wad a big family!
Okay, that’s the end of my post for now. But dun think that that’s the end of my trip in Medan… read the next post to find out….
